Day Eight - A Turning Point

Today was a good day, but incredibly difficult.
Progress was made.

Mom had the vent removed and is doing pretty well maintaining her oxygen level.

The order has been put in for a PICC line.
They expect her to move to the step down unit within 24 to 48 hours.

It was so difficult to see her in so much pain today.

There were moments when I thought she understood what I was saying.
There was one moment when she nodded ever so slightly.
There was one moment when she tried to squeeze my hand.

When it came time for me to leave, I told her several times, never getting a response that she understood, until the third time when I got the ever so slight head nod.

I just want her to respond to me and talk to us.
I know I have to give her time.
I'm anxious to see her in the morning to see if she has improved and is more comfortable.

Overall, today was definitely a turning point - and we are now headed back in the right direction.
